Cosmic
Trinity
There is an ancient Chinese proverb
that says, “First, luck; second, destiny; third,
Feng Shui; fourth, virtues; fifth, education”. The
Chinese have always understood that the most important aspect alone
in the scheme of things is a person's destiny. Equally, they understand
that destiny is not responsible for success. They believe it's the
combination of luck, destiny, Feng Shui, virtue, and knowledge that
makes us successful.
The first two things are luck and
a person’s destiny. They account for one-third of the influences
in our lives and together are known as Heaven’s Luck,
meaning that they are the luck, destiny, personality, fate, etc.
that we were all born with. They are the things that were given
to us at birth without any control on our part (i.e., they came
from Heaven).
The next two things are our virtues
(how we treat others and what choices we make in life) and education
(the information we learn). These two things fall under the category
of Man’s Luck, meaning that we accomplish
them ourselves through work, making responsible life choices, and
exercising our uniquely human quality of free will. We can change
these things ourselves, and they account for another one-third of
the influences upon our lives.
Meanwhile, Feng Shui—the
final one-third of the influences upon our lives—is known
as Earth’s Luck and is about harnessing the
Chi (energy) in our lives to help us increase the positive parts
and decrease the negative parts of both Heaven’s Luck and
Man’s Luck so that we may have more of a balance in our lives.
Feng Shui is about people choosing to adjust their environments
and/or their attitudes to effect change in their lives.
People’s lives are formed
by the three foundational luck elements mentioned above. Our happiness
and success depend on all of them.
