The
practice of Feng Shui is the art and science of balancing and harmonizing
Chi within a person’s life—through observing and analyzing
a person’s environment—in order to promote health, happiness,
and prosperity. It looks at and harnesses Chi in relation to a person’s
surroundings (home,
office, garden,
etc.), personal characteristics, and other unique factors to promote
a balance that favors “good” Chi and helps foster specific
goals in our daily lives.
For centuries, the ancient practice
of acupuncture has been used to stimulate the flow of Chi that is
blocked in people’s bodies and may be causing them physical
discomfort or disease. Feng Shui, on the other hand, is used to
unblock negative or “bad” Chi in our homes and offices,
creating environments in which Chi flows freely to help us become
happier, more productive, and in control of our lives.
Feng Shui has existed
in one way or another for thousands of years. Before it was known
as Feng Shui, it was known as “Kan Yu”, which referred
to Heaven/Time (“Kan”) and how that influenced Earth/Space
(“Yu”). Kan Yu also means “raise your head to
observe the sky above and lower your head to observe the Earth around
us”. This tells us to pause and study both the natural and
man-built environments. It is also a reminder that man is part of
the Cosmic
Trinity (also known as the Three Harmonies) made up of Heaven,
Man, and Earth.
“Eventually, the practice
of Kan Yu evolved and became known as “Feng Shui”, which
refers to the practice of containing water (“Feng”)
and controlling the flow of wind (“Shui”) so that positive
Chi—and balance—is achieved. To live well according
to these principles, people would—and still—often settle
villages and build homes with mountains as a solid base behind them
and a river, lake, or other body of water in front of them, a position
seen as very favorable for attracting and keeping “good”
Chi. It is my mission to help you apply these
principles to modern life and to tap into positive energy and bring
about positive changes in your life.
